BUTUAN CITY – A man who is wanted for killing a police officer in Cebu was slain during a law enforcement operation Wednesday morning (Sept. 23) in Barangay Basag here, the Police Regional Office in Caraga (PRO-13) said.

Capt. Agustin M. Navarro, PRO-13 public information officer, identified the suspect as Jeffrey Caparida, also known as Victor Uy.

“Caparida is the top one most wanted person in the town of Minglanilla, Cebu. He has a standing warrant of arrest for murder after being tagged in the killing of Police Corporal Omar D. Parages, a member of the police station in said town last October 19, 2019. The subject person is also a member of a gun-for-hire group operating in Minglanilla,” Navarro said.

He said Caparida drew his firearm and shot the approaching policemen who were about to serve an arrest warrant.

Meanwhile, PRO-13 also reported the arrest of a member of the Militia ng Bayan (MB) of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) and the most wanted person in Carmen, Agusan del Norte in separate police and Army operations on Tuesday (Sept. 22).

Gorofredo B. Golle Jr., 50, an alleged MB operating under the NPA's Guerrilla Front (GF), was arrested in Barangay San Mateo here by operatives of PRO-13 and the Army's 23rd Infantry Battalion.

Police also nabbed Edgardo P. Alcantara Jr., 35, a resident of Tagcatong, Carmen town, considered as the most wanted in the municipality who is facing frustrated murder charges.

“The success of the manhunt operations is attributed to the intensified anti-criminality campaign of PRO-13,” Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., the new PRO-13 director said in a statement Wednesday. (PNA)
