CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – At least 17 persons were arrested and 96 sachets of suspected shabu were confiscated in an initial wave of the Simultaneous Anti-Criminality and Law Enforcement Operation (SACLEO) here.

Lt. Col. Arnel Dial, city police chief, said on Saturday their operatives have conducted 11 buy-bust operations during the first frame of the SACLEO from September 17 to 23.

The SACLEO, a branding of Central Luzon Police Director, Brig. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, has since been the police’s upscaled campaign against criminality.

Aside from the anti-drug operations, Dial said, the Cabanatuan City Police has also netted 11 people with pending warrants of arrest, and one each in illegal gambling and car theft.

"Sa direktiba ng ating provincial director, Col. Marvin Joe Saro, ay isinakatuparan natin at naging matagumpay ang SACLEO (With the directive of our provincial director, Col. Marvin Joe Saro, we have implemented SACLEO and it has been successful," he said in an interview.

Several firearms of different calibers were surrendered to the city police pending the renewal of their respective licenses, Dial said.

This as the police conduct accounting of 4,492 registered guns in the city.

It turned out, however, that while 42 have so far been renewed and 810 are under process for renewal, some 1,172 owners could no longer be located.

Some 154 gun owners have died and 228 have sold their weapons, he said.

"Sa ilang araw lang ay matatapos na natin ito (In a few days, we will finish this)," Dial added. (PNA)
