MANILA – The prevailing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic did not hamper the Philippine National Police (PNP) from pursuing its anti-illegal drug campaign as 4,247 operations resulted in the confiscation of around PHP309 million worth of shabu in the past month.

In a press briefing in Camp Crame on Monday, PNP chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan said a total of 5,552 drug offenders were also arrested from Sept. 2 to Oct. 2 and while 45.52 kilograms of shabu were confiscated.

He said these are the results of the PNP Operational Strategy of Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO) that widened the concept of anti-criminality with regular law enforcement activities through police presence and focused law enforcement operations, crime investigation and solution, security measures through target hardening, border control, social investigation, community partnership, proper deployment of resources; and public affairs through the quad media to promote public awareness and community support.

Cascolan added that for the past 30 days, the PNP mounted more police operations and interventions in the form of preventive patrol operations, checkpoints, and gun check operations.

"These efforts also resulted in 5,906 persons arrested, 1,432 loose firearms recovered and a three-fold hike in the number of recovered motor vehicles from 2,099 in August to 9,248 in September,” he said. (PNA)
