CEBU CITY – A total of 27 vendors in Siquijor province have received PHP540,000 worth of livelihood package from the government, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Visayas said on Friday.
Distributed were Nego-Karts or Negosyo sa Kariton kits to vendors from the municipalities of Larena, Maria, Siquijor, San Juan and Lazi, who used to only rent carts when peddling.
DOLE-7 regional director Salome Siaton said each recipient received PHP20,000 worth of livelihood package comprising of a Nego-Kart, glass display rack, 11-kilogram LPG tank, gloves, helmets, hairnets and aprons.
In one of the recent turnover ceremonies held in Larena, Mayor Danny Villa thanked the DOLE for making its livelihood program accessible to the people of his town.
“Thank you DOLE for this initiative in providing livelihood to the people not only in our municipality of Larena but also all throughout the island of Siquijor,” he said in a DOLE-7 statement.
Public Employment Service Office (PESO) manager of the town of Maria, Roselyn Asok, advised the beneficiaries to take good care of their Nego-Karts as they are all fortunate to receive them.
Both Villa and Asok encouraged the recipients to work hard and make their food vending businesses grow.
“Together with DOLE, we assure you that we will provide you with the right support that you will need,” Villa said.
Excited to use their Nego-Karts, the beneficiaries committed to nurture the assistance they received from the government through the DOLE.
“We’d like to thank the Purok Sudlon Farmers’ Association, who served as our accredited co-partner in this endeavor. Together with the group and the respective PESOs of the municipalities where the beneficiaries come from, we are assured that their individual undertakings will be efficiently executed and monitored,” Siaton said.
The DOLE director also recognized the PESOs that were at the forefront in the selection of the 27 beneficiaries.
The Negosyo sa Kariton is a project under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program, which assists ambulant vendors in making their existing livelihood undertakings grow into profitable and sustainable businesses.
It is implemented in partnership with local government units, the private sector and other interested parties who shall cost-share in the provision of assistance. (PNA)
