ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-9 (PDEA-9) has destroyed nearly PHP20 million worth of illegal drugs here, a PDEA official said Friday.

PDEA-9 director Emerson Margate said the destruction of the confiscated illegal drugs on Thursday complied with the directive of PDEA Director-General Wilkins Villanueva following an order from President Rodrigo Duterte to prevent unscrupulous anti-drug operatives from recycling them.

Margate said the illegal drugs were 2,501 grams of shabu worth PHP17 million; 15,494 grams of marijuana with an estimated market value of PHP1.8 million; and 40,000 grams of Ephedrine worth PHP1 million.

Margate said the illegal drugs were disposed of through the thermal destruction method, as prescribed under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Regulation No. 1, Series of 2002.

He said all the contraband were collected from the different courts in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi (BaSulTa) areas as the result of anti-drug operations of the PDEA and police from August 2019 until October 15. (PNA)
