CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Some 1,112 children in Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija are now benefiting from the community-based milk feeding program that aims to address the malnutrition problem.
The move is a collaborative effort of the local government unit of Cuyapo and the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), to supply the nutritional requirements of children and help them to grow healthy.
Aside from the nutritional benefits to children, the program that started on Thursday also supports and promotes the livelihood of carabao farmers as the commodity is sourced out from the milk yields collected from their farms.
Each child will receive 200ml toned carabao’s milk from the Pulong Buli Multi-Purpose Cooperative and a "milky bun" from DA-PCC’s Milka Krem for at least 70 days.
DA-PCC Deputy Executive Director Caro Salces said in a statement on Friday that the program is not only beneficial to children but also to dairy value chain players as “it will create a higher demand for locally produced milk, thus, providing them sustainable livelihood and boosting the local dairy industry”.
Salces likewise said the program is very timely as it will help boost the children’s immune system against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Cuyapo Mayor Florida Estaban urged the mothers to encourage their children to make drinking milk a daily habit. (PNA)
