CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – At least 21 barangays in the towns of Hagonoy and Calumpit, this province on Monday have been submerged in floodwaters due to rains brought by Typhoon Quinta and aggravated by the high tide from the Manila Bay.
Nine villages in Hagonoy, namely Palapat, San Agustin, San Isidro, San Juan, San Miguel, San Pedro, Sta. Monica, Sto. Niño and Tampok were flooded under one to two feet while barangays Sapang Bayan, San Jose, Pandukot, Sta. Lucia, Bulusan, Calizon, Gugo, Iba Oeste, Caniogan, Frances, Meysulao, and San Miguel, all in Calumpit are under one to five feet water, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
The floodwater has rendered the Macaiban Bridge in Sta. Maria town unpassable to all types of vehicles while Lias Road in Marilao town is not passable to light vehicles.
As of 6 a.m., the PDRRMO said that Ipo Dam in Norzagaray town has been releasing water at 108 cubic meters per second (cms) since Sunday midnight and its water elevation is at 101.20 meters as against its spilling level of 101 meters.
Bustos Dam is releasing 375 cms, with its water elevation at 17.01 meters, against its spilling level of 17 meters.
On the other hand, Angat Dam’s water elevation has reached 194.10 meters compared to its previous day’s water level of 192.40 meters.
The dam is 14.10 meters above its minimum operating level of 180 meters but is still 17.9 meters below its ideal end of the year water elevation.
Residents living along low-lying areas and those near the river banks of Angat River from Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, and Hagonoy are advised to take precautionary measures and be alert for a possible increase in water level.
The southern portion of Bulacan is still under Signal No. 2 while the rest of the province is under Signal No. 1. (PNA)
