DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte has once again appealed to Dabawenyos to refrain from spreading fake and unverified information related to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on any social media platform.

Mayor Sara issued the appeal after a message circulated on Facebook said that Davao City was about to implement lockdown and "a possible enhanced community quarantine due to rising cases of Covid-19”.

In a radio interview Monday, Sara said Dabawenyos should only get their updates from the city's official social media accounts, such as City Government of Davao and Byaheng Do30--and the government-run Davao City Disaster Radio.

This would ensure, she said, that residents obtain verified information that could help them make informed decisions.

“Again, I will remind the Dabawenyos not to believe the 'heads up guys' announcement on social media. If they did not come from the official city government channels, social media, radio station, and advisory publications of mainstream media partners, then there is no truth to any of that information,” Duterte said.

Mayor Sara warned she would refer any misinformation on social media to the "cyber-patrollers" of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) for the possible prosecution of offenders.

To prevent panic and ease anxiety, the mayor also advised Dabawenyos to focus on practicing preventive health measures "rather than be fixated" on Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
