2 fishermen survive lightning strike in Zambo Sur town

ZAMBOANGA CITY--Two fishermen suffered burns after being hit by lightning in Zamboanga del Sur amid the inclement weather brought by Typhoon Rolly (Goni) on Saturday (Oct 31).

Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the victims as Jamelacay Sala, 17, and Eddie Mohale, 40.

Duco said the victims were fishing over the weekend off the coast of Barangay Salawagan, Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur when a lightning struck their banca.

Several residents rushed the two fishermen to the Rural Health Unit of Pitogo town, Zamboanga del Sur, and were later transferred to Margosatubig Regional Hospital in neighboring Margosatubig town.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Typhoon Rolly entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the afternoon of October 29 and forecast to exit PAR on Tuesday. (PNA)
