MANILA – The Philippines Football League (PFL) postponed on Thursday its supposed final match of the season between Mendiola and Stallion Laguna due to the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.

"Today's match between Mendiola FC and Stallion Laguna FC is canceled due to Typhoon Ulysses," the league said in a statement, which came moments before the club's scheduled kickoff.

Initially tipped to start at 4:30 p.m., the PFL announced on Tuesday night that it has been rescheduled for a 9 a.m. kickoff so that everyone left in the bubble can return home earlier.

The match still has some implications regarding the AFC Cup.

Whichever between Mendiola and Stallion Laguna will finish fourth in the table will become a standby team for the said continental tournament if Kaya Iloilo, which will play in the qualifiers of the AFC Champions League beginning January, enters the Champions League's group stages.

Stallion Laguna needs to beat Mendiola by three goals or more to get to the fourth spot.

Otherwise, Mendiola, which is currently in fourth place, will lock in the spot.

"The league will make an update with regards to the status of the match in due time. For now, we wish for each everyone's safety," the PFL's statement continued. (PNA)
