MANILA – Police affected by the series of typhoons that hit the country would get PHP5,000 cash aid, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas said Monday.

Sinas said based on initial assessment, a total of 746 personnel were severely affected by the typhoons in Bicol, Southern Tagalog and Cagayan Valley.

“We will be giving PHP5,000 for each of the policemen affected. This will be a form of assistance for those whose houses were damaged or were submerged in floodwater. This will help them to start repairing their houses because house repairs would mean that you have to spend money for the materials,” Sinas told reporters after his first flag-raising ceremony as PNP chief.

Aside from cash assistance, affected police personnel are also provided with relief items.

“So I would like to request and ask the Directorate for Police Community Relations to assess and to talk with our Directorate for Comptrollership if we could make another round of relief operations doon po sa Cagayan Valley pero huwag natin kalimutan na naapektuhan din 'yung (let's not forget) Bicol area. So again we will try to share of what we have lalo na sa mga personnel po natin (especially to our personnel),” Sinas said.

The extent of damage of Typhoon Ulysses to police stations, police equipment and properties of their personnel is currently being assessed.

Meantime, Sinas said President Rodrigo Duterte was "very satisfied" with how the different government agencies responded to the recent calamities.

“I was happy that the President was very satisfied with the actions and response of the different government agencies ng gobyerno doon sa mga nasalanta nung (to those affected by) Typhoon Ulysses. We are part of it and we are very happy na nagampanan po natin 'yung tungkulin natin doon (we delivered and did our job well),” Sinas said. (PNA)
