CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Civic organizations here are pooling resources to help the people devastated by severe flooding in Cagayan Valley and Isabela provinces.

During the launching of "Kagay-an Para Sa Cagayan" on Monday, a group of Ateneo de Manila University alumni said they partnered the Philippine Airforce (PAF), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMO), Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cagayan Valley, Solid Shipping Lines, Inc., and Dragon Boat Kagay-an (DBK) to collect relief goods for the victims.

John Asuncion, the initiative's co-convenor, said the first wave of relief goods would be flown from the city to Cagayan Province through the PAF, while Solid Shipping Lines, Inc will send the remaining goods.

"Our local proponent in Cagayan is the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cagayan Valley Chapter. They will do the segregation and distribution. Our local drop off centers in CDO are the St. Mary's School (Macasandig), and RMN and iFM radio stations. Goods will be brought to St. Mary's School for storage and packing before it will be sent to Lumbia Airport on November 20 (Friday), 4 p.m. This schedule may change depending on the airport runway in Tuguegarao, Cagayan if it is safe to land for the C130," Asuncion said.

Asuncion was also part of Team CDO, the multi-sectoral group in last year's relief distribution for earthquake survivors in Central Mindanao.

Meanwhile, the Rotary Club of Kalayaan-CDO, through Club President Dale Borja Lagonera said it also initiated a “typhoon donation drive” to encourage people to donate and provide relief for Typhoon Ulysses survivors.

Rotary International District 3870 Governor Rogelio Buot, Jr. said they partnered with Rotary Districts 3770, 3800, and 3820 in Luzon and Metro Manila for the relief effort.

"We are reminded that once we were also a community badly hit by then Typhoon Sendong. We are fortunate to have recovered many years now, and we feel it is time to give back to those who have lost their loved ones and those who are starting over. That 'Service above Self' together we are stronger," Lagonera said. (PNA)
