DAVAO CITY – The Davao de Oro provincial government denied Tuesday that a derby would be held in Nabunturan town on Nov. 28.

The clarification came after a text message circulated in recent days, saying the DUGBA Cup Invitational 6-Stag Derby would be held at the Nabunturan Sports Complex on the said day.

The text message also said the organizers have complied with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) protocols.

Allin Joy Camile, the executive assistant to the governor, told the Philippine News Agency that any cockfighting event in Davao de Oro is prohibited under an existing executive order of Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy.

“We informed the public that this one is not approved. Sabong or cockfighting is prohibited in the province,” he said.

Camile said the purveyors of the false information have been reported to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The municipality of Nabunturan, on the other hand, said in a statement, the prevailing policies disallow any cockfighting event, in compliance with the provincial IATF protocols on the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Camile said the province does not see the return of derby and other similar events until the Covid-19 cases in the province return to insignificant levels.

Any individual who violates the executive order, she said, will be charged with violation of Republic Act No. 11332 "Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act" and Republic Act 9271 "Quarantine Act of 2004."

Camile also asked the public to report to authorities any cockfighting event in the province. (PNA)
