COTABATO CITY – In response to the increasing power demand of the city’s growing economy, the Cotabato Light and Power Company (Cotabato Light), an AboitizPower distribution unit, started testing Wednesday the enhancement of its Malagapas substation here.

In a statement, the Cotabato Light said the upgrade provides the company with an increased energy capacity, ensuring better reliability of power across its franchise area.

The project involves installing new electrical equipment, including the addition of a 15-MVA transformer - a new device used to control and protect the equipment at the site.

“The new equipment is the firm’s commitment to better serve customers in our franchise area,” Cotabato Light president and chief operations officer Valentin S. Saludes III said.

“The completion of the Malagapas substation additional capacity will better serve future electric demand while providing more reliable and continuous power to the Cotabato Light franchise area,” Saludes said.

He said the improved substation would address the growing power demand for both business and residential customers here. The project, which started in June, is expected to be fully completed by the end of this year.

AboitizPower is the holding company for the Aboitiz Group’s investments in power generation, distribution, and retail electricity services. Its franchise area includes the whole of Cotabato City and parts of the towns of Datu Odin Sinsuat, Datu Blah Sinsuat, Sultan Kudarat, and Sultan Mastura, all in Maguindanao. (PNA)
