HPG lauded for ops vs. motorcycle-riding criminals

MANILA –  Operatives of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) were lauded for the prompt response to carjacking incidents in Laguna and Bulacan. 

“Police operations and crime prevention through patrolling and strengthened police visibility are the doable actions that form the backbone of the overall PNP mission to serve and protect the people,” said PNP chief, Gen. Debold Sinas in a statement Wednesday. 

This, after PNP-HPG director, Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, reported that two suspected carnappers were killed while two others were injured and arrested in a shootout with HPG operatives in separate operations in Bulacan and Laguna on Nov. 17 and 18, respectively.

Tagum said HPG operatives immediately launched a dragnet operation along a bypass road in Barangay San Roque in San Rafael town in Bulacan after receiving a carnapping report.

The carnapping of a Yamaha Mio motorcycle happened at around 3 a.m. on Nov. 17 in Barangay Sampaloc, San Rafael town.

Shortly after, HPG men spotted two suspects who were aboard the stolen motorcycle. He said the policemen ordered the duo to stop but the latter opened fire at the HPG men, hitting the front bumper of their mobile patrol car, and sped off.

The policemen returned fire, resulting in the instantaneous death of the suspects and recovery of the stolen motorcycle. Also seized from the suspects’ possession were two handguns.

In Laguna, two motorcycle carnappers were wounded and arrested following a shootout with HPG operatives in Calauan town.

At around 7:30 p.m Tuesday, the suspects robbed Crisanto delos Santos of his cellphone and took his Russi motorcycle in Barangay Lamot 2.

HPG personnel and local policemen conducted hot pursuit against the suspects who were traced in Purok 3 in Barangay Balayhangin, Calauan at around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

As the lawmen approached, the suspects opened fire, wounding one of the policemen identified aS S/Sgt. Diosdado Casupang Jr in the process. The lawmen retaliated, wounding the two suspects who were later arrested.

Recovered from the suspect's possession were a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber .38 revolver, the stolen Russi motorcycle, and another motorcycle without a plate number. (PNA)
