MANILA – The Chinese embassy in Manila on Wednesday clarified that the temporary suspension of foreign entry into China applies to all foreigners from "all foreign countries," not only to Filipinos.

"Taken note of some media reports on a recent notice by the Embassy on the temporary suspension of foreigners entry into China, we would like to (clarify): The temporary suspension is a universal measure on all foreign national in all foreign countries, not specifically on Filipinos or on the Philippines," it said in a statement.

It noted that the move was in response to the current worsening situation of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic as China faces risks of imported cases.

"The measure is a reasonable and legitimate move consistent with international customary practices," it said.

The embassy, meanwhile, said entry by holders of diplomatic, service, courtesy or holders of C visas will not be affected by the travel restriction.

Foreigners who need to visit China for emergency needs may still apply for visas at the Chinese embassy or consulates, it added. (PNA
