CEBU CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) 7 (Central Visayas) on Thursday night reported 13 new recoveries and 111 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Data from the DOH-7’s Center for Health Development showed that 11 of those who have recovered were from Cebu province and two were from Bohol province.

The new figure raised the region’s recoveries to 20,976 or 89 percent of the 23,541 cases recorded since the start of coronavirus surveillance in January.

Meanwhile, the DOH-7 reported that 90 percent or 100 of the 111 new Covid-19 cases were from the island of Cebu – 41 from Cebu province, 25 from Cebu City, 22 from Lapu-Lapu City, and 12 from Mandaue City.

Bohol and Negros Oriental province have two and nine cases, respectively.

Dr. Jaime Bernadas, DOH-7 director, said they have observed an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases as major localities in Central Visayas entered the third month of the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) this month.

Bernadas said the total active cases in the region rose to 1,191, up by 203 from 988 on November 1.

“There is a noticeable increase in the number of cases across the three highly urbanized cities from morbidity (surveillance) week 45 to 46 (November 1 to 14),” he said, referring to the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, and Mandaue.

The health department is also monitoring the Covid-19 situation in both Cebu and Negros Oriental due to the rising number of cases recorded by their respective local health offices.

“Cebu and Negros Oriental showed an increase in the number of cases with 43.3 percent and 20.2 percent growth change from morbidity week 45 to 46,” Bernadas said.

He, however, reported a drop in the number of Covid-19 infections in Bohol.

The department has recorded 1,374 Covid-19 deaths since January, with one fatality reported in Bohol on Thursday. (PNA)
