COTABATO CITY – Officials of the Overseas Workers Welfare Association in Region 12 (OWWA-12) have formally accepted 24 dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as scholars for the school year 2020-2021.

The scholars, together with their parents and guardians, inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with OWWA-12 Director Marilou Sumalinog on Monday afternoon to officially mark the beginning of their contracts.

The event took place at Tacurong City’s cultural and sports center in the presence of officials from OWWA-12, Commission on Audit, and Tacurong's OFW Desk Office.

Depending on which program they qualified for, the 24 scholars will be financed either with PHP20,000 per school year under the OFW Dependents Scholarship Program (ODSP) or PHP60,000 per school year under the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP).

Out of the 24 scholars, six were from Tacurong who qualified for ODSP, and three have qualified for EDSP.

Speaking to the beneficiaries and their parents, Sumalinog encouraged the scholars to use the opportunity to achieve the dreams of their OFW parents — that is for them to finish their college education.

“Make your parents proud by pursuing your dream, and their dream for you to have a bright future,” Sumalinog said.

There are 400 OWWA scholarship slots for the entire country this school year, and 24 of those were given to Sultan Kudarat province. (PNA)
