ILOILO CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) here has announced the postponement of the second step of registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) or the national ID system for those scheduled November 25-30, 2020.

PSA Regional Statistical Services Office (RSSO) Western Visayas OIC regional director Marlene Y. Alviar, in an interview on Wednesday, said the deployment of registration kits is still ongoing since the chips that will be used have just arrived.

“We already have an advisory that the registration of those scheduled November 25 to 30 is postponed until further notice,” she said.

"The arrival of the kits was delayed due to the series of typhoons that hit the country that also led to the delayed shipment of the kits, materials, and supplies that are needed for the reconfiguration of the system," the advisory said.

Alviar added that they also have to undertake preparatory activities such as the electrical connection and the entire setup in an area that will be provided by the local government unit.

PSA will be deploying 890 kits in four priority areas in the region namely Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.

During Step 2 of the registration, the picture, biometrics, and fingerprint of the household head will be captured.

PSA targets to register 1,081,960 individuals during Step 2 since only the household head will be registered first to minimize the number of people who will flock to identified registration centers.

A total of 1,963,321 low-income household heads and members from four provinces in Western Visayas belonging to the bottom 40 percent of the population in terms of income based on the Family Income and Expenditure Survey have been chosen for the pre-registration.

The target included 222, 250 in Antique; 278,408 in Capiz; 808, 387 from Negros Occidental; and 654, 276 from Iloilo.

As of November 15, PSA enumerators have already reached out to 932, 000 household heads and members in the region.

The PhilSys ID can be used as proof of identity. It will also serve as the digital ID that they can use when processing claims and assistance from the government. (PNA)
