MANILA – Archbishop Charles John Brown, the new Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, is scheduled to arrive in Manila this weekend.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news website reported on Wednesday that the Vatican representative to the country will be arriving on Sunday, based on a communique to the bishops.
Brown is expected to present his credentials to the Philippine government soon thereafter.
He will be coming from his home city, New York, where he spent a few weeks break after his tour of duty as nuncio to Albania.
Before reporting to his new mission, Brown met with Pope Francis during a private audience in the Vatican on October 23.
On September 28, the Pope appointed the 61-year-old American archbishop as his new ambassador to the Philippines.
The position was vacated by Archbishop Gabrielle Caccia who was named head of the Holy See’s Permanent Observer Mission in the United Nations in New York in November 2019.
On the other hand, Filipino bishops are looking to meet the new Vatican diplomat.
“We wish His Excellency a fruitful, meaningful and memorable stay in our country,” said San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza.
Brown will have the chance to celebrate with the country the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines next year. (PNA)
