DUMAGUETE CITY – The Diocese of Dumaguete has received over PHP950,000 in donations to be sent to the victims of Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses that recently battered provinces in Luzon during the past weeks.

Bishop Julito Cortes, in an interview late Sunday, said they are optimistic of reaching the PHP1-million mark as additional donations were still to be accounted for.

He is hopeful that there will be more donations to be sent to the typhoon victims, as he extended the second collection of masses for this endeavor.

The diocese has so far given PHP150,000 to Camarines Norte through Fr. Augusto Angeles. It will also send PHP400,000 to Tuguegarao City through Archbishop Ric Baccay, Cortes said.

The prelate also said PHP400,000 will be sent to Virac, Catandanues through Bishop Manolo de los Santos.

Cortes likewise acknowledged the contribution of the diocesan radio station DYWC-AM, headed by Fr. Ramonito Maata, for having received more than PHP300,000 coming from both second collections in Sunday masses in the different parishes and from private/individual donors.

He thanked the people for their kindness and generosity for sharing their resources even in this trying time of a pandemic. (PNA)
