ZAMBOANGA CITY--At least 417 tourism industry workers displaced by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic are set to receive financial aid from the government.

Mayra Paz Abubakar, Department of Tourism (DOT) assistant secretary for Mindanao, said Friday the identified recipients are displaced workers of DOT-accredited primary and secondary tourism enterprises, including workers of tourism establishments, travel and tours, tourists transport operators, tour guides, and other tourism front-line services.

Abubakar said each beneficiary would receive PHP5,000 financial assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under the agency's Covid-19 Adjustment Measure Program (CAMP).

Meanwhile, the DOT official urged employers to facilitate their workers' application for them to be able to avail of the government grant.

Abubakar said applicants should submit payroll or proof of payment, employment contract, business permit, DOT accreditation certificate, and proof of unemployment.

“We are happy that the government saw the importance of helping the tourism industry, especially those displaced workers,” she said. (PNA)
