BACOLOD CITY – Some 50 percent of the 32 local government units in Negros Occidental, including this capital city, have imposed moratorium on the arrival of locally-stranded individuals (LSIs) from the middle of December to the first week of January.
As of Wednesday, a list released by the provincial government showed that at least 16 towns and cities will not accept LSIs on specific dates approved by the Western Visayas Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) through their respective resolutions.
Ilog town has imposed a moratorium on LSIs from December 20 to January 3, La Carlota City from December 22 to January 2, Pontevedra from December 22 to January 5, Cauayan from December 20 to January 3, while Himamaylan City, Victorias City, and Calatrava, from December 21 to January 3.
This city will also ban LSIs from December 21 to January 3, Hinoba-an from December 16 to 22, La Castellana from December 22 to January 5, Candoni from December 17 to 31; Moises Padilla, December 21 to January 2; Valladolid, December 24 to January 1; and Sipalay City, December 20 to January 2.
Under Resolution 103, Murcia will impose a ban from December 16 to January 4 while Bago City from December 16 to January 1.
The provincial government itself got an approval from the RIATF through Resolution 84, suspending the arrival of LSIs and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) to Negros Occidental on December 24 and 25, December 31, and January 1.
In asking for approval from the RIATF, the LGUs have cited reasons like disinfection, decongestion, and reorganization of quarantine facilities and reprieve for front-liners deployed to take care of the arrivals amid the continuing threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“The Department of Health-Region 6 provided the RIATF with necessary data and poses no objection on the approval of the above-stated requests. After the moratorium on the period provided, the suspension on the arrival of LSIs is deemed lifted in the area identified,” their resolutions stated. (PNA)
