MANILA – Three police officers were arrested for alleged extortion activities during separate police operations in Taguig City and the province of Albay.
In a report to Camp Crame on Thursday, Col. Thomas Frias Jr., acting Director of the Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) said Staff Sgt. Carlos Sison was arrested in an entrapment in Barangay Napindan, Taguig City on Wednesday night.
Frias said Sison was the subject of a complaint for alleged extortion filed by Jordan Delfin Maxian, from whom Sison alleged demanded PHP15,000 purportedly to clear him of links to illegal drug activities and exclusion in police operations.
Sison was caught red-handed with the cash in different denominations. He was immediately brought to the IMEG headquarters in Camp Crame for booking and filing of criminal charges for extortion.
He would also face administrative charges for grave misconduct.
Meanwhile, personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Regional Field Unit 5 and the Albay Police Provincial Office, arrested four suspects, among them two police officers in an entrapment in the town of Camalig on Tuesday afternoon.
Staff Sergeants Ernan Mullasgo and Gerald Capuz, both assigned the Camalig Municipal Police Station, were arrested by CIDG agents along with two other suspects Melody Paliza and Jay Marquez Quides at the Provincial Engineering Office in Barangay Salugan.
The suspects yielded five mobile phones and PHP1,000 bills used as marked money.
The operation stemmed from the complaint of lawyer Paulino Fernandez Jr., who said the suspects demanded from him PHP2 million, otherwise, they would kidnap his parents.
The four suspects have been presented before the provincial prosecutors on Wednesday for inquest proceedings.
The CIDG said the suspects are affiliated with the Concepcion group known for robbery extortion, gun-for-hire, and other illegal activities in the Bicol region. (PNA)
