Crime group leader killed in Bulacan shootout

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – A leader of a newly-identified robbery hold-up group was killed in a shootout with the police in Barangay Calumpang, San Miguel town on Friday.

Col. Lawrence Cajipe, director of the Bulacan Police Office, identified on Saturday the suspect as Dante Tecson Jr. of Barangay Calumpang.

Based on the report, the suspect was also the source of illegal drugs at the said place and in nearby municipalities.

"He was also suspected to be responsible in the robbery incidents in San Ildefonso, Bulacan," Cajipe said in an interview.

Operatives of Bulacan Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), San Ildefonso and San Miguel Municipal Police Stations and Bulacan Second Provincial Mobile Force Company launched an operation against the suspect.

However, an armed encounter ensued after the suspect sensed that he was transacting with authorities.

“The suspect ran towards his house and fired shots to the operatives, prompting the team to retaliate and hit the suspect,” Cajipe said.

The suspect was brought to San Miguel District Hospital but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Recovered from the crime scene were four fired cartridge cases for cal.45; three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia, and buy-bust money. (PNA)
