P17-M shabu, marijuana busted in Pangasinan this year

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Police officers in the province have seized almost PHP17 million worth of shabu and marijuana in 716 operations from Jan. 1 to Dec. 21 this year, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) reported on Monday.

Of the total amount, PHP16.4 million were classified as shabu with a total weight of 2,404.72 grams, while marijuana accounts for PHP624,027 or 5,200.23 grams.

At least 791 persons have been arrested, including high-value targets.

Last year, the PPPO reported that out of 999 operations conducted, 1,037 were arrested while PHP5.9 million worth of shabu and PHP139,382 worth of marijuana had been confiscated.

In an interview on Monday, Capt. Art Melchor, PPPO information officer, said there are 1,036 drug-cleared barangays in the province, while 27 out of 48 towns and cities were drug-cleared.

“Five barangays were reverted; these are Barangay Bugayong of Binalonan town, Poblacion East in Agno town, Primicias in Bautista town, San Vicente in San Jacinto town, and San Vicente in Urdaneta City. Dagupan City and Sual are on the process,” Melchor said.

Meanwhile, acting PPPO director, Col. Ronald Gayo, vowed to continue next year the programs on the campaign against illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption within their ranks. (PNA)
