MANILA – The government and the private sector are set to partially open on Tuesday the Skyway Stage 3, which will link the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

“As promised by President Rodrigo Duterte, the Skyway Stage 3 will be partially opened tom — December 29. Soon, travel time from NLEX to SLEX will only be 30 minutes away. #BuildBuildBuild,” Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said in a Facebook post on Monday.

Earlier, Villar said once the project is complemented it will clear Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) of some 50,000 vehicles each day.

The Skyway Stage 3 is an 18-kilometer elevated expressway spanning from Buendia in Makati to Balintawak in Quezon City.

It is composed of five sections: Buendia-Quirino Avenue, Nagtahan-Aurora Boulevard/Ramon Magsaysay Avenue, Ramon Magsaysay Avenue-Quezon Avenue, Quezon Avenue-Balintawak, and Balintawak, Quezon City-NLEX Footbridge.

On the other hand, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) president Ramon Ang also announced on social media that the multibillion undertaking will have a soft opening on Tuesday.

“I am pleased to announce the partial opening tomorrow, December 29, of our 18-km Skyway Stage 3, for free to motorists for one month. By January 14, we can all enjoy the full benefits of this engineering marvel,” he said in a Facebook post.

Ang also thanked government officials for their hard work.

“Despite the continuous rains that delayed its completion, the entire team worked so hard to deliver this game-changing project. Maraming salamat po (Thank you very much). To the Duterte administration, I cannot thank you enough for all the support -- from our President Rodrigo Duterte, Secretary Villar, Secretary Arthur Tugade (Department of Transportation) to Secretary Carlos Dominguez (Department of Finance). We all did it! Truly amazing what we can all achieve when we work together with a shared vision, and for a worthy goal. Sama-sama. Babangon tayo (Together, we will rise),” he added.

The Skyway Stage 3 project is one of the projects of the government under the Edsa decongestion program. (PNA)
