MANILA – Pasig residents should refrain from using firecrackers, fireworks, and any other pyrotechnic devices in welcoming the New Year, the city government said.

In its advisory Tuesday night, the local government approved executive order PCG 68, series of 2020, prohibiting residents to use fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices to prevent firecracker-related injuries during the celebration of the New Year.

This, after the recommendation of the Regional Peace and Order Council-National Capital Region under Resolution No. 19 on the ban on the use of firecrackers in the 17 local government units of Metro Manila.

This is in support of the national government’s efforts for a safe celebration of the holiday season.

Under the city's executive order, the use of any type of firecrackers, fireworks, or pyrotechnic devices, is prohibited in Pasig City while it is still under general community quarantine (GCQ) status due to the pandemic.

The city government said the measure also discourages people from conducting mass gatherings and social crowding to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night announced that Metro Manila will remain under GCQ status until January 31, 2021. (PNA)
