PH Covid-19 recovery tally up by over 500 to 439,509

MANILA – The Department of Health on Wednesday reported 518 new recoveries pushing the country's total number of recovered cases from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 439,509.

In its 4 p.m. case bulletin, the DOH said the figures represent 93 percent of those who tested positive for the virus that has so far beaten the illness.

The agency also logged 1,014 new confirmed cases and 68 new deaths.

These figures brought the overall tally of active cases to 23,793 and the death toll to 9,230.

The DOH said about 79.7 percent of the active cases are mild, 11 percent are asymptomatic, 3.1 percent are severe, 0.49 percent are moderate, and 5.7 percent are in critical condition.

"There were eight duplicates that were removed from the total case count, and of these, four recovered cases have been removed. Moreover, 21 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths," it added.

Quezon City topped the list of places that reported the most number of new cases with 67 infections.

It was followed by Benguet with 57; City of Makati with 48; Bulacan with 44; and Laguna with 40.

DOH data on Dec. 29 showed that 1,233 or 6.8 percent of 18,258 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

Currently, there are 24,800 beds dedicated to patients with Covid-19.

Available are 61 percent of 2,000 intensive care unit beds, 68 percent of 15,500 isolation beds, and 77 percent of 7,300 ward beds.

About 79 percent of 2,100 ventilators are available for Covid-19 patients' use.

The DOH encouraged the public to avoid the use of firecrackers come New Year's Eve to avoid injuries and pollution.
