3 hurt in firecracker accidents in Nueva Ecija

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – At least three persons, including two minors, were hurt in firecracker incidents during the New Year revelries in separate places in this province.

A report from the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office showed that the victims were Jay Ar Anastacio, 28, of Barangay Villamarina, San Jose City; an eight-year-old boy from Barangay Palomaria, Bongabon town; and a 10-year-old boy from Barangay Abar 1st, also in San Jose City.

Investigation showed all the victims incurred injuries from "kwitis" (baby rocket)', an authorized type of firecracker.

Anastacio sustained first degree burns when the firecracker accidentally exploded in his right hand at around 8:19 p.m.

On the other hand, the eight-year-old boy victim sustained multiple injuries after the kwitis which he lit inside a glass bottle exploded while the 10-year-old victim was wounded in the right leg by wayward firecrackers.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Cabanatuan City police station found assorted firecrackers abandoned in a box along Rizal St., Barangay Rizdelis here at around 4 p.m. Thursday. (PNA)
