LEGAZPI CITY – Heavy rains over the weekend triggered flooding and landslides in some Bicol provinces, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported on Monday.
Gremil Alexis Naz, OCD-Bicol spokesperson, said one person was reported missing in Sorsogon.
“Based on our record, a 10-year-old male from Irosin town in Sorsogon has been reported missing by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMC) of Sorsogon. Ongoing search, rescue and retrieval operations are being conducted by the MDRRMCs of Irosin, Juban & Casiguran and Sorsogon PDRRMC,” he said in a phone interview.
Also, at least 106 families or 454 people were displaced in Camarines Sur and Sorsogon due to the effects of the weather disturbance.
“Twenty-six families or 104 individuals are inside evacuation centers while 80 families or 350 individuals are outside evacuation centers or private houses,” Naz said.
The widespread rainfall spawned by the tail-end of a frontal system caused rivers and streams to swell, causing inundation and rain-induced landslides, he said.
The OCD reported 111 flooded areas in the region.
In Sorsogon province, flooding affected five villages in Matnog town; four in Juban; five in Sorsogon City; nine in Gubat; one in Sta. Magdalena; portions of two barangays in Pilar and eight villages in Prieto Diaz.
In Catanduanes, at least seven villages in Baras were affected by the flooding, five in Bagamanoc; one in Bato town; three in Gigmoto; two in Pandan; 20 villages in Viga and two in Caramoran.
In Camarines Sur, flooding was recorded in nine villages in Nabua; eight in Caramoan; six in Baao; two each in Cabusao, Lupi and Libmanan and Lagonoy towns; one each in Calabanga, Garchitorwan, San Jose, Sagnay, Presentacion and Buhi.
Also, 20 landslide incidents in 10 municipalities and one city were reported due to the weather disturbance. (PNA)
