ILIGAN CITY--Narcotics agents have arrested a former staff of the Iligan City Anti Drug Abuse Council (ICADAC) in a buy-bust operation Thursday evening in Barangay Luinab here.

Agent Neil Pabilona, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) assistant provincial officer for Lanao del Norte, identified the arrested person as Wilrap Losorata, 28, who yielded five sachets of shabu with an estimated market value of PHP54,400.

Losorata was under surveillance for several months based on the information provided by previously arrested personalities, Pabilona said.

Orlando Carrasco, ICADAC administrative officer, said Losorata worked for two months last year as a facilitator of the Facility-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program of ICADAC inside the Iligan City jail. He stopped reporting for duty last October.

After being identified by the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council as a drug pusher, Carrasco said Losorata was convinced by former colleagues to enroll at Balay Silangan Reformatory Center, a program that builds temporary shelters for drug offenders.

"He was all set to enroll in the program. He was already there (at Balay Silangan in Barangay Abuno) with all the things he needed while undergoing the program for three months. When he learned that they needed to be body searched, he immediately backed out saying his children will look for him if he would not go home for a longer period of time," Carrasco said.

Charges have been readied against Losorata for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
