TACLOBAN CITY – The provincial government of Eastern Samar has started listing names of people who are interested to get the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines.

Of the 22 towns and one city in the province, the listing has kicked off this week in the town of Arteche.

The mayors and village officials are helping in collecting names of those who would want to be included in the list for vaccination, according to the provincial governor’s office media chief, Phres Evardone, in a phone interview Friday.

"Those who will signify or have their name included in the list will be added to the master list of residents from the province who will be vaccinated," Evardone said.

A team from the local government unit has been mobilized to visit every village in the province to conduct a listing per household this week.

Evardone asked residents to make a decision before the end of January. The province is targeting to finish the listing by the end of this month.

The list, once completed, will provide the number of vaccines that will be allocated to every local government.

"We are also doing this because the national government will be rolling out their own system," he added.

The list of the province will become a basis for the national government on selecting who is not going to be part of their vaccination program, according to the official.

Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone earlier announced that the province is allocating PHP500 million for the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines.

Last week, the provincial board of Eastern Samar approved a resolution authorizing the governor to enter into a non-disclosure agreement with AstraZeneca for the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Eastern Samar, a province that occupies the eastern portion of Samar Island, has a population of 467,160 in 22 towns and one city. (PNA)
