KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato – This city ranked third on the top 10 most competitive component cities in Mindanao based on the latest data results posted by the Cities and Municipalities Index (CMCI) on Thursday.

Lawyer Paolo Evangelista, city information officer, said the city received the information about the ranking from the Regional Competitiveness Committee (RCC) of the National Competitiveness Council on Friday.

The RCC, which is part of the Department of Trade and Industry, serves as “building blocks” for investment promotion activities of local government units across the country.

Evangelista expressed his commendation to all employees and partner agencies that efficiently worked hand-in-hand to attain the most ideal business climate for the city.

“Every sacrifice bears good outcome and I commend everyone especially the workers of the local government unit and its partners as the backbone of this recognition”, he said.

The CMCI ranking is based on four pillars that include economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency.

The Makati City-based CMCI has been in place in the Philippines since 2012 as a measure of competitive government.

“The city of Kidapawan consistently ranked as among the top ten from the particular classification annually,” Evangelista said.

Other component cities included in the 2020 CMCI list are Tagum City in Davao del Norte; Cotabato City; Panabo (Davao del Norte); Pagadian (Zamboanga del Sur); Dipolog (Zamboanga del Norte); Koronadal (South Cotabato); Gingoog (Misamis Oriental); Surigao (Surigao del Norte) and Malaybalay (Bukidnon).

The city, a recipient of the Hall of Fame Award for the Seal of Good Local Governance from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, is also included on the list of cities with an annual budget marking of PHP1-billion. (PNA)
