ZAMBOANGA CITY – Some 500 recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in this city face expulsion from the program because of various violations.

Glenda Tobias, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), 4Ps provincial link head, said Monday that the agency's investigation found that several recipients have been pawning their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) or cash cards to other persons, which is a violation of the rules.

Tobias said the rampant pawning of cash cards have been going on since 2019.

He said they would recommend to the DSWD central office the temporary suspension of benefits of the cash cardholders involved in the anomaly.

She said many of those who earlier committed anomalous transactions were given the opportunity to mend their ways, but violations continued to occur.

Cutting off the benefits of the violators, she said, would teach them a lesson and make them understand the consequence of their actions.

“We like to make them understand that this program (4Ps) is for the children. We understand that they are from low-income families, but we also like to remind them that they have obligations under the program,” Tobias said. (PNA)
