MANILA – Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff, Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana lauded the appointment of Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino Jr. as the new acting commander of the Philippines Army.

"Well (he served in) Sulu and now he is the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) commander so as far as the experience is concerned mataas ang (he has a high) level of expertise niya sa peace and security efforts," Sobejana told reporters on Friday.

Sobejana also believed that Faustino, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1988, will do well as acting PA chief.

When asked about Faustino's designation as acting PA chief, he said this is because the former only has less than one year remaining in military service.

"Because he has less than one year remaining in the military service, by law it should be (a) year," Sobejana said.

This designation will remain until Faustino's retirement, he added.

"Until retirement for now, pero kung may iba pang trabahong ibibigay then malalaman na lang natin (we will know if there would be other jobs that we would be given to him. We will know later)," Sobejana said.

Earlier, Malacañang named Faustino as Sobejana's successor in the PA. (PNA)
