Tarlac anti-drug op nets P20-M marijuana, 6 suspects

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Some PHP20 million worth of marijuana bricks and leaves with fruiting tops were seized by authorities during anti-illegal drugs operation in Tarlac on Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, regional director of the Police Regional Office-3 (PRO-3), said the operation was launched by joint operatives of Police Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Tarlac Police Provincial Office, Philippine National Police -Philippine Drug Enforcement Unit, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Tarlac and Concepcion Municipal Police Station in Barangay San Francisco, Concepcion town.

Valeriano said the operation also resulted in the arrest of six drug suspects-- Marlon Miranda and Joey Palaeyan, both high-value individuals and residents of Bulanao, Tabuk, Kalinga Province; Freddie Letta, of Sta. Ana, Manila; Carl Andrei Maico, of Diliman, Quezon City; Via Jean Ortiga, of San Isidro, Northern Samar; and Lorraine Fulgencio, of Project 4, Quezon City.

Seized during the operation included 163 bricks of suspected dried marijuana leaves with an estimated street value of PHP20 million, five pieces of PHP1,000 buy bust money, a cellular phone, a Toyota Altis (BTK777); and 100 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.

Valeriano said the suspects will be charged with violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act).

He said the PNP-PRO-3 is continuously conducting pro-active operations to wipe out all forms of illegal drugs in order to achieve their quest for a drug-free Central Luzon. (PNA)
