MANILA – A prime suspect in the murder of four police officers in Negros Oriental last June 2019 was killed in an encounter with police officers in Mandaluyong City.

In a statement Friday, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Debold Sinas said Ryan Sandag Manguilimutan, with aliases“James” and “Ka Ignacio”, died in a shootout with arresting officers in Barangay Daang Bakal on Thursday morning.

Manguilimutan was recruited by a rebel group of the Northern Negros Front (NNF) of the communist movement sometime in 2013.

"He was transferred to the Regional Strike Force (RSF) of the KR-NCBS (Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor) in 2016 and became a regular member of CN3 (Central Negros) in January 2018,” Sinas said.

Mangilimutan has a standing arrest warrant for murder and theft charges issued by the Bais City, Negros Oriental Regional Trial Court Branch 75.

Police recovered from the scene a Canik pistol, which was issued to one of the murdered policemen, various ammunition, a brown sling bag and four empty shells of 9mm pistol.

Manguilimutan, together with six members of rebel group and guerilla community supporters, intercepted and killed four Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 personnel conducting information gathering in Barangay Mabato, Ayungon, Negros Oriental on June 18, 2019.
The rebels also brought along with them the personal properties of the victims together with the four issued short firearms.

Earlier, the Ayungon, Negros Oriental police filed multiple murder and robbery charges against six suspected NPA members for the killing of the four police officers in Barangay Mabato last July 18.

The suspects were charged with the murder of Cpl. Relebert Beronio, Pat. Raffy Callao, Pat. Ruel Cabellon, and Pat. Marquino de Leon. (PNA)
