TACLOBAN CITY – The Eastern Samar provincial government will provide financial assistance to confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients of the province.

Governor Ben Evardone, in a statement on Friday, said those patients who recovered from the illness will each receive PHP5,000, while PHP10,000 will be given to the family of those who died.

He said the assistance is primarily aimed at providing socio-economic relief to those directly affected by the coronavirus especially those whose family members died of Covid-19.

The funding will be sourced from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

The AICS is part of the DSWD's protective services for the poor, marginalized and vulnerable, or disadvantaged individuals, designed to readily respond and provide timely and appropriate assistance to individuals or families in distress.

AICS is also part of the agency’s technical assistance and resource augmentation support to local governments.

The provincial social welfare development office (PSWDO) in cooperation with the provincial health office (PHO) is already processing the payroll of more than 1,000 beneficiaries from 22 towns and one city in the province.

The PSWDO and PHO coordinated with local government units and village officials to know the list of confirmed Covid-19 patients in their respective areas.

Confirmed Covid-19 patient's names are certified by their respective village officials during the gathering and validation.

Releasing the financial assistance to beneficiaries will start as soon as the payroll is finalized.

As of Feb. 15, Eastern Samar has a total of 1,181 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 1,129 recoveries, and 28 deaths. (PNA)
