Pangasinan village execs foil carjacking

MAPANDAN, Pangasinan – Village officials of Barangay Amanoaoac here nabbed four suspects, three of them minors, for reportedly trying to steal a motorcycle from a rider Monday night.
 
Pangasinan Police Provincial Office information officer Maj. Arturo Melchor II identified the suspects as Jaypee Fernandez, 28, of Barangay Macayocayo, Bayambang town; and two males aged 17 and one male aged 16, all of Barangay Gueguesangen in Sta. Barbara town.
 
Melchor said based on their initial investigation, certain Glennald Cervantes was driving his motorcycle on road in Barangay Amanoaoac when the suspects allegedly blocked his way.
 
“The suspects tried to forcibly take the victim’s motorcycle but the latter refused to give his motorcycle. One of the suspects punched him but the barangay officials responded to the incident,” he said in an interview on Tuesday. 
 
He said the suspects tried to escape but were nabbed by village officials.
 
Fernandez has been turned over to the custody of Mapandan police while the minors to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development, he added. (PNA)
