MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday reported that over 45,000 workers in the education sector from both private and public schools have benefited from the Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP).
Citing a report of the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), Rolly Francia, DOLE-Information and Publication Service (IPS) director, said a total of 45,715 education personnel including teachers have received financial assistance worth over PHP228 million out of the PHP300-million budget.
“According to the Bureau of Local Employment, the program manager for CAMP for education, over PHP228 million have been given to 45,715 people both private and public in the teaching profession,” he said during a virtual briefing.
This came after Senator Sherwin Gatchalian questioned the alleged slow distribution of cash aid to teachers and non-teaching personnel who were affected by the pandemic.
The DOLE official added that of the total allocation, there is still a balance of PHP62 million.
“The funds have been given to the beneficiaries. There’s a balance of PHP62 million of the PHP300 million allocated for this program,” he said.
Francia added that there is still some money left since there are no more applicants.
“There are no more takers, no more applicants but we are ready to dispose of the funds,” he said.
He added that over 14,000 more workers from the education sector will benefit from the program.
Under CAMP, beneficiaries will be receiving one-time cash assistance amounting to PHP5,000 for those affected by the pandemic. (PNA)
