MANILA – To strengthen its information drive on disaster awareness and mitigation, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is urging all Filipinos to join its group on messaging app Viber.

Mark Cashean Timbal, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) deputy spokesperson, said they always wanted to build a community of Filipinos well aware of disaster mitigation and resilience principles.

"We wanted to build a group that is always informed of the principles of disaster preparedness and resilience, whose members can help us in the propagation of this advocacy," he said in a message to the Philippine News Agency Thursday morning.

The OCD is the implementing arm of the NDRRMC, which is mandated to "administer disaster preparedness and manage the consequences of disasters while it continues to carry out its part on the Covid-19 response."

Timbal said this "Civil Defense Viber Group" will be the venue for the sending of regular updates on DRRM activities, warnings on various hazards, and public education on safety and preparedness.

"This (Viber Group is) open to all Filipinos," he added. And to be part of this community, Timbal said that interested individuals merely need to scan or click this link https://invite.viber.com/. (PNA)
