GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Authorities have widened their investigation into the killing of a policeman assigned at the Police Regional Office (PRO-12) in a restaurant here on Thursday afternoon.

Capt. Abdulsalam Mamalinta, chief of the city police station number 06, said Friday they are currently pursuing several angles possibly connected with the slaying of Corporal Nasrudin Bansuan, who was gunned down while eating inside the Cotton Bowl Grill and Steak House along San Miguel Street in Barangay Lagao past 4 p.m.

He said the 38-year-old Bansuan, who was with seven police trainees, just came from a nearby shopping mall where they purchased supplies when the attack happened.

Citing accounts from witnesses, he said two unidentified persons wearing face masks casually entered the restaurant, approached the table and shot the victim several times.

The gunmen, who spared the police trainees, immediately fled from the scene on a motorcycle.

Mamalinta said Bansuan died on-the-spot due to gunshot wounds on the head and back from a .45-caliber handgun.

“There are numerous information coming out regarding the possible motive and we’re considering all of them right now,” he told reporters.

Brig. Gen. Bernard Tambaoan, PRO-12 deputy regional director for administration, confirmed in a text message that among the motives being pursued was the victim’s alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

“He was included in the IDID (Inter-Agency Drug Information Database) list and considered a high-value target,” he said.

Bansuan, who was previously assigned at the PRO-12’s Regional Special Training Unit, was recently transferred to the Regional Police Holding and Accounting Unit after being placed under investigation. (PNA)
