DAVAO CITY--The office of Davao City First District Rep. Paolo "Pulong" Duterte distributed cash aid and rice packs over the weekend to more than 500 families affected by a fire in Barangay Vicente Duterte, Agdao District here.
In a statement Tuesday, Duterte's office said Saturday's blaze affected over 400 houses in a coastal community in Purok IKP and San Jose.
Consisting of house owners, sharers, boarders, renters, and caretakers, the recipients received cash and 10 kilos sack of rice from the lawmaker’s office.
One of the victims, 31-year-old Lyn Noble, 31, said she was not able to save anything from the fire. Her husband was not around during the conflagration.
"I temporarily live in a relative now as we are awaiting if we could return to the area or maybe we will just find a place to stay," Noble said in vernacular.
An initial report by the Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) showed the fire affected at least 574 families, most of whom are sheltered in three evacuation centers.
Barangay Vicente Duterte chairwoman Remedios dela Luz said the relief aid from Duterte's would help the affected families cope with the loss of property and the disruption on their livelihood. (PNA)
