Kalayaan votes' arrival delayed; 'No' votes leading: Comelec

MANILA – The canvass report from Kalayaan Island for the Palawan plebiscite is not expected to arrive at the provincial capitol on Tuesday.

“Canvass results from Kalayaan are not expected to arrive today, due to the unavailability of transport. Kalayaan has 281 registered voters,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a message to reporters.

As of 2:12 p.m. Tuesday, 'no' votes are still leading at 159,334 while 'yes' votes are at 118,521 based on canvassing results from 19 out of a total of 23 municipalities.

“Earlier this afternoon the Provincial Board of Canvassers canvassed the results from Cagayancillo - YES: 2,085; NO: 834,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez said certificates of canvass from the towns of Agutaya with 6,376 votes, Cuyo with 12,298 votes, and Magsaysay with 6,923 votes arrived at the provincial capitol at 4:30 p.m.

The 18 other canvass reports that have already been canvassed are from the municipalities of Narra, Brooke’s Point, El Nido, Aborlan, Sofronio Española, Rizal, Bataraza and San Vicente.

Also, the PBOC has canvassed the results from the municipalities of Taytay, Roxas, Balabac, Quezon, Dumaran, Araceli, Linapacan, Coron, Culion, and Busuanga.

On March 13, the plebiscite was held in a bid to divide the province into three namely: Palawan Oriental, Palawan del Sur and Palawan del Norte pursuant to Republic Act No. 11259 which was signed on April 5, 2019. (PNA)
