MANILA – A police officer from Davao is now facing dismissal after testing positive for illegal drug use.

PNP officer-in-charge, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said on Friday he has already ordered the conduct of a pre-charge investigation and summary dismissal proceedings against Cpl. Donree Gall Adug.

Eleazar said Adug was among 41 personnel of the Regional Police Security and Protection Unit 11 at Camp Capt. Domingo E. Leonor in Davao City who underwent a random drug test last March 15.

Only Adug tested positive for methamphetamine while all 40 others yielded negative results for drug use.

"We should continue our random drug tests to get rid of our organization of drug addicts and users", Eleazar said.

Earlier, PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas has ordered the surprise drug testing of all police personnel under the ongoing internal cleansing program.

A total of 16,839 erring police officers have been penalized since 2016 under the PNP’s internal cleansing program to rid its ranks of scalawags. (PNA)
