DUMAGUETE CITY – The province of Negros Oriental on Wednesday reported more recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as a downtrend in positive infections continues.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, health committee chair of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) in a virtual press briefing, reiterated that authorities are hoping this will continue amid the vaccination rollout.

Estacion said from March 22 to 23, they received 393 swab test results --385 negatives (with 26 recoveries), four new positives, and another four swab still-positive infections.

The new recoveries are from Dumaguete City (seven); Bacong, Tanjay City, and Sta. Catalina (four each); Bayawan City (three); Guihulngan City (two); Jimalalud and Sibulan (one each).

The new positive cases are from Dumaguete City and La Libertad (two each).

As of March 24, Negros Oriental has a total caseload of 1,878--1,765 recoveries, 56 active positive cases, and 57 mortalities.

Estacion reiterated that even if returning residents have presented the required negative result of the Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) swab test, they should be monitored constantly by barangay and health officials as they are no longer required quarantine.

Although the active positive cases have seen a slow but continuous decline in the past weeks, Estacion said that people should not let their guard down and must adhere to the basic health and safety protocols. (PNA)
