PNP cleansing program identifies 17K erring personnel

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday reported imposing sanctions on more than 17,000 personnel as it continues to discipline, reform, and cleanse its ranks.

Based on data provided to reporters by PNP spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Ildebrandi Usana, the Internal Cleansing Program has penalized 17,786 for administrative offenses, including involvement in the illegal drug trade, grave misconduct, serious neglect of duty, abuse of authority, other irregularities, and human rights violations.

The erring personnel, uniformed and non-uniformed, committed the infractions from July 2016 to March 24, 2021.

A total of 4,974 were summarily dismissed from the service; 8,806 were suspended; 1,973 were reprimanded; and 943 were demoted.

In terms of administrative cases, 716 were sanctioned with forfeiture of salaries; 132 restricted to quarters; and 242 withheld of privileges.

On rogue cops in the drug trade, a total of 617 were dismissed for drug-related cases, including 462 who tested positive for drug use, and 155 involved in the illegal drug trade since July 2016. (PNA)
