BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Gerardo Victor Rojas of Murcia, Negros Occidental, east of this capital city, and two other town officials have tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Rojas confirmed his test result on Facebook on Wednesday night, saying that although he got infected, he does not manifest the usual symptoms.
“My RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test result came out today, and I wish to inform you that I was diagnosed as positive for Covid-19,” the mayor said.
“Though I was found to be positive, I am asymptomatic. I feel normal in all aspects of my health, but I will still comply with the government-mandated protocols,” he added.
Also tested positive were Councilors Belen Magbanua and Adrian Olimpo as well as Third District Board Member Manuel Frederick Ko, whose jurisdiction includes Murcia, which he had recently visited for various events.
Rojas appealed to his constituents to strictly observe minimum health protocols such as wearing of face mask and face shield, proper physical distancing, and frequent washing and disinfecting of hands.
“I and my family are thankful for your continuing prayers and concern. Rest assured, we will get over this crisis together, and we will heal as one,” the mayor said.
On Tuesday, Rojas released Executive Order 07, series of 2021, adopting Resolution 02 of the Local Inter-Agency Task Force Against Covid-19, recommending stringent protocols against the disease.
The directive included the temporary prohibition of mass gatherings, including but not limited to birthdays, reunions, weddings, and seminars, from April 7 to 18.
Also, resorts and other tourist destinations in the municipality were directed to suspend operations from April 5 to 11.
From April 7 to 25, curfew has been set from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Data released by the Provincial Incident Management Team on Thursday showed that as of April 7, Murcia has 11 active cases. (PNA)
