SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – Four barangays in the municipality of Sibalom are currently on granular lockdown to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid-19 information officer Rodel Esler, in an interview on Wednesday, said under granular lockdown are Barangays Alangan with one active case, Nazareth with two cases, District II with four, and District IV with six active infections.

He said Alangan and Nazareth implemented granular lockdown starting April 5 while District II and District IV took effect on April 12.

The lockdown will be for two weeks but the barangays may extend when necessary.

Barangays with recorded Covid-19 cases may impose granular lockdown within their territorial jurisdiction as per the General Provisions of Executive Order 2018-18-IV that set the guidelines for the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) in Sibalom.

“With the granular lockdown, the barangay officials prohibit residents especially the seniors and children from going out of their homes,” said Esler, who is also the Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Officer of Sibalom.

He added that those going out for their essential needs are strictly checked in terms of their adherence to the minimum health standards.

Acting Municipal Mayor Zoilo Bernardo E. Tubianosa, in an official statement issued April 12, also reminded residents to stay home and strictly follow the minimum health standards such as the proper wearing of face mask and face shield, social distancing, and regular washing of hands.

Tubianosa, a physician by profession, is currently the acting mayor as Mayor Gian Carlo Occeña is still undergoing treatment in a hospital in Iloilo City due to Covid-19.

Esler said that for the period March 20 to April 13, 2021, Sibalom has 59 total cumulative cases composed of 52 active, five recoveries, and two deaths. (PNA)
